eBook Forums: A Place for Librarians to Discuss Market Trends and New Opportunities
In 2013, Elsevier Science and Technology Books hosted its first eBook forums in Brazil, China, South Africa, and Thailand.
This program allows us to intimately engage with our academic and corporate librarian customers, providing an excellent environment to discuss local market conditions, trends, and challenges.
A Vital Platform for a Key Audience
Forums such as these provide a vital platform for raising awareness of local authors and contributors, while also giving visibility to new and bestselling titles.
At the South Africa eBook forum, two customers, one academic and one corporate, delivered presentations on the growth of eBook collections in South African academic libraries, specifically discussing the way Sasol (a South African corporate customer) has incorporated Elsevier eBooks into their research and scientific environment.
Survey results collected after the event indicated the main reasons librarians were motivated to attend were to learn more about:
- Trends in eBooks
- Elsevier Science and Technology eBooks
- eBook usage from fellow librarians
Feedback from librarians who attended the forums has been extremely positive. For the event in China, a majority of attendees rated the event excellent.
Following the success of these events, a program of forums is scheduled for 2014 in Asia, North America, Latin America, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa). Each of these events will play an integral role in formulating Elsevier’s Sales and Marketing plans for 2014 and beyond.
